open 1:1

a logo to help get a computer into the hand of each student

Open 1:1 is a non profit that helps schools deploy 1 to 1 (student to computer ratio) solutions. As their name implies, they utilize open source tools, which makes their ambitious goal financially feasible.

They wanted the right logo to help spread their message.

Something simple and iconic. Bold but not too sharp. Something that contained a computer, a student, and also the “1:1” from the organization’s name. It evolved naturally through our dialogue into the image you see above.

I’ve been doing a fair amount of design recently, but most often as a small piece of a project focused around coding. The simplicity of the project was refreshing and they were fun to work with. They’re a great group with some smart heads. I think they’ll do well:)
